Nice one. I'm glad the alternator did the job.
I've got loads of spares and another bb4 that I'm undecided what I'm doing with so if your ever stuck, just give me a shout.

How I'd the suspension mods fare?

10/03/12 - TrackScotland - Radius road failure on track

Post by Merlin » Sun Mar 11, 2012 12:13 pm

10/03/12 - TrackScotland

Format - 4 hour open pit
Cost - £100
Conditions - Dry but very cold

Vanzep and Indigolemon came along to this trackday. The car was running perfect untill the 3rd time I went out where the passenger radius rod nut failed at 100mph braking towards the hairpin :o

See from 4.10 in this vid

What we think happend was that the nut came off, resulting in the big washer and front bush falling off. The whole wheel assembly was able move backwards bending my arb drop link, causing my wheel to rub on the arch. When the radius rod washer and bush came off one of them hit my CV boot, spliting it, and CV grease to go everwhere including the inner side pf my disc and pad  Also my alloys are knackered  I have no idea yet of any other damage such as bent coilover etc...

No nut, washer, and bush

Grease is the word!

Mis-shaped holes

When it was running the car was unbelievable. Alot of tyre squeel due to using road tyres.

A guy with less luck than me rolled his roll caged MG Maestro which makes me want to install a cage :scaredtoss: :

The driver was fine but the marshal he hit got a few broken ribs.

The idle control system uses a signal from the alternator to know when it is charging (so it can raise rpms to compensate for the extra drag). If you changed the alternator and this stopped the bouncy idle then it looks like a faulty alternator signal was the cause of your bouncy idle.

Nice vids there Alasitair..... Lucky escape with the suspension failure.

Hope the damage isnto going to be too cotly to sort on the car.

A cage could save your life. Better to have one and not use it than to not have one and need it :|

well held when it all went wrong mate :hail:

so forgot to tighten the nut up after the rebuild  or did it actually fail or strip the threads on the radius rod?

I am seriously thinking about a cage now, rich mentioned about a group buy a while ago, sure we have a few people who'd seriously consider it no :scaredtoss:

 I know for a fact that it was tight, the alignment guy was the last person to touch it though. We did use the old nuts, maybe that was it :?

I have bought a new camera so that will be the end of mega bright vids 8-)
