Very good Andy. It's for the benefit of them that can't be with us here at James's on this blisteringly hot day. Also to keep my thread up to date. gentleman's sausage.

Mugen spoiler and rocker cover preparation

Post by honda-hardy » Sun Sep 01, 2013 11:05 pm

when i sold my 3rd gen, andy gave me a rocker cover as part of the purchase price, so this morning at work i stripped it using loctite 7200 gasket remover

Image

spray it on, leave it, agitate it with a brush and wash off in one of our industrial wash machine.

Image

polished the letters with a dremmel and metal polish.

Image

masked letters.

Image

also made a start on the mugen rep spoiler and inx 3rd gen brake bar led combo.

so here is the spoiler.

Image

and it marked up before chopping with the dremmel.

Image

chopped out a section and test fit.

Image

bonded the led bar into the spoiler using tiger seal.

Image

masked up led and gave it a first coat of resin

Image

next a few thin layers of white gelcoat filler

Image

a rough idea of the depth of the light bar.

Image

a trial fit on the car. geeeeez, its bloomin huge

Image

Image

sitting a bit high on the tips as its resting on the wires.

I like the idea with third light. Is it gonna be removable in case you will need it? When I will finally get my mugen wing I will have to try the same thing. I'm running JDM wing atm and don't wanna loose third stop light.

Fast work.
As you say, the spoiler looks HUGE atm, but that should tone down when it's not white, I imagine!

so, today i masked up the relevant holes on the rocker cove, primed and painted it.

starting to wrinkle up nicely.

any ideas on how to make the letters sharper on the edges once the paint has properly cured and wrinkled over the next couple of days?
