Dash cam recommendations please.
Post by bb1boy » Wed Aug 21, 2013 10:27 am
Hi all,
With the number of Ludist attacks on the rise I feel a dash cam is probably a wise move.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
@prelude_h22 listed this one which looks pretty good - what is the quality of footage like Mr_h22? And how is it for ease of use, saving videos etc etc?
@taz8520, I saw your vid of the cop cutting the corner, the footage looks ok on that cam, can you tell me what make/model it is please and roughly how much it cost?
Has anyone thought about a rear facing cam too?
Any other comments/suggestions are gratefully received.
Cheers!

Indigo has the right idea as you can mount the second camera anywhere you like. you can get that set up cheaper than that though. I ahve seen them for £35.
IMO this would have a small profile when fitted by the taxdisc say. It has a sticky pad rather than a suction cup so the only intrusion is the size of the unit.
It can also be used as a video/still pic handy cam right out of the car (if you happen to see a UFO or something)
None of these are admissible in court though are they? I want one but I bought a 3800lumen torch this month for a toy

Not admissable? Is that because there are no GPS coordinates plus time and date stamps?
I don't display a tax disc, I don't like how it looks in my window. I just pop it on the dashboard if I park anywhere. I won't be leaving a camera mounted to my screen either, it will only be there while I am driving.lewd lude lover wrote:IMO this would have a small profile when fitted by the taxdisc say..

These are used as evidence by Insurers and are being actively encouraged by fleet insurers to their fleet customers as they are keeping claims costs down massively. They normally carry a condition that any accident must be reported within 24hrs and the video evidence submitted, regardless of fault.
They love them, it serves two purposes. Firstly where a non fault accident is concerned, they often act as conclusive evidence to prove negligence, saving a fortune in solicitors bills and court costs. Secondly, where their own customer is at fault, they can determine this straight away and get the third party's car repaired straight away and get them in a courtesy car, again saving a fortune in third party solicitors costs and potential hire car cost. I have seen claims escalate to £40k where the actual damage was circa £5k, there was another £20k in hire costs and another £15k in legal costs. These sort of claims can be avoided from the outset.
