Merlin, I found the Rs-r sidewall wasn't firm
enough on track on the front. Fine on the rear.

Thankyou for posting this Nitin, I am after some new tyres for the missus BMW and I'm sick of the £200+ tyres she needs for the rears 255/35/18's. I was trying to find the thread where H10ndr suggested the Syron's. Couldn't for the love of me remember who and where it was posted to get the name.

So I'll be trying a set soon enough. @h10ndr: Did you get the Race 1's or Street Race. New Street Race's look pretty funky.

Just checked and a pair of the Race 1's in 255/35/18's is £205.44 delivered to my door! That's half the last pair! I will be ordering in the next couple of days and will report back once fitted and tested.

It'll be a tough comparison, had Bridgestone S001's on there before - standard tyre on Ferrari's and the like. A little bit unheard of though.

The usual £200+ tyre for this car is:

- Michelin Pilot Sport 2's (BMW factory tyre) - not great for the money personally
- Bridgestone RE50A's run flats - have a couple on my Mazda and a couple on the front of the BMW - pretty decent tyre
- Bridgestone RE40A's - Had a couple in the past - again a great tyre

Others I've tried:

- Goodyear Eagle F1's - great tyre

Just picked up some Hancook Ventus Evo V12's and Toyo Proxes T1-R's for various replacements on the Mazda / Lude.

Gotta try these things out. Will have to give the Rainsport 2's a try seeing as people seem to turd left, right and centre on here about them!

I got Rainsport 2s and tbh I'm not a big fan... to me the grips OK. BUT when you get them you realise you pick up every bloody stone...!! then they seem sooooo soft on the sidewalls.. and yes i got the XL ones. I got TBH I've not push them to the max yet in the dry or wet but still.. I'd go else where next time!

i got 215/50/17 on a 17/7.5 alloy!

I can see why you might find them too soft. That is a big side wall. I'm on 215/45/17 and don't find them excessively soft. But yeah they pick up everything off the road.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love my Avon ZZ3's, best tyres I've run for ages! Nice tread pattern too
