I am fitting my one to an engine on a stand, not in the engine bay.
To get the sump off in situ I would think you would need to remove the exhaust down pipe, lower centre beam, and possibly the gearbox housing strengthening plate. Once you get past that lot the sump itself comes off very easily.

Oh not much then!
I stupidly assumed the sump was quite low and easy to get to with just a few bolts all round to seal it. Silly me!
Something else I'll need help with then!

It's not so bad. A bit involved but not hard I wouldn't think.
The centre beam comes off really easy (6 big bolts) and the gearbox stiffener is (from memory assuming Merlin means the crescent shaped plate that covers the bottom of the bell housing?) 3 small bolts.
The biggest problem is the manifold (bolts corroded/stuck) but since you've had that off (recently?
) it should be fine.
I bet it'll be messy when you drop the sump though
nb: you really need a torque wrench for this. The sump would be very easy to bend and the gasket squash if the bolts are even slightly over tightened, which would cause bad leaks all over again...

Cheers for the advice mate. I don't think I know any one with a set of torque wrenches though. I've got ramps and loads of tools to do it just not them
Hmmmm. Any way Merlin, when I get mine fitted i'll be able to recommend a cheap one if it works and fits ok!
