Re: Merlin's 4G Track Lude
I sprayed the H22a7 bits I sold with the same paint (but silver) and that came up a treat too although they do look a little matte in comparison.

EVAP & Brake Master Cylinder
Yesterday we ripped out the EVAP system. I think I may have made a small mistake in blanking off the line that allows vapour to escape from the fuel tank. I did a little more reading anbout that this morning and apparently it needs to be vented. No biggie as I can easily sort it.
Pic of the bay before (sorry for crappy pic)

The engine bay minus EVAP and heater hose gubbins

We also upgraded the BB4's non-ABS 15/16" brake master cylinder and brake booster to an ABS 1"brake master cylinder and brake booster. While the old one came out OK the new one, although bigger, supprisingly didnt want to go directly in. We couldnt get it to clear the shock tower. It was out by a couple of mm. A couple of whacks with a hammer later and it fit!
We also had to remove a couple of bits in the engine bay, including the clutch master cylinder to have enough room to get the bigger one in. The larger unit fits fine after that an all lines up with the correct fittings. The only thing left is to make up a new brake line from the MC to the brake proportioner as we had to chop it due to a stuck nut on the line.
15/16" brake booster on the left and 1" on the right

The hole when the smaller one was removed

The larger one installed

The shock tower was curved anyway, that big curve was not made entirely with the hammer

Overall we are not too far away from finishing, fingers crossed only a month away now
Plus I got a call from Rich at Performance Autoworks the other day saying my baffled sump is fnished and should be with me next week

Re: Merlin's 4G Track Lude - Brake Master Cylinder Upgrade
Yeah with the engine and other bits in place it would be difficult. Apparently the larger MC is meant to give a 12% increase in fluid moved. I wonder if the ABS system saps any braking force as well?

12%!
Wow, that's a lot actually. Glad I have the 1" from the start. The ABS unit must do something to warrant the extra force surely.
If you havn't got a brake flaring tool yet, I'd recommend one of the new cheap Powerhand ones on ebay right now. It was a bit of a gamble but I've read some good reviews on them. It's a really simple design, british built, cheap and produces excellent consistent flares - better than the £100+ Snap On blue point one. Cost me £34.50 posted.
