Re: the wifes EK civic - FINALLY PAINTED

Post by lucas » Tue Jun 25, 2013 11:37 pm

hey everyone, guess its time for an update !

just after the car show we took the civic to "the garage" in motherwell to get a lazer alignment and camber done.
the tracking was out a fair bit and the camber was'nt the same

Image

got a wee snap of the painted lcas and tie bar :D
Image

Image

so the tracking was PERFECT after that and then me n my mate decided on sunday that we were going to swap the engines over :D

Image

Image

drivesahfts out

Image

Image

d15 out..

Image

Image

D16 almost ready.. not an easy swap as you would think :/
a mate of mine said.. "yeah man its a straight swap" !!

naw!

had to swap the loom, the dizzy, n/s engine mount, rear engine mount, power steering pump before we could drop it in

Image

started at 3pm n had it swaped over for about 10pm...

we had to plumb it all in the next day and then D16 ecu would'nt work!
Wasnt getting a spark, swaped the ecus back over and presto, running fantastic and no issues !

drove up to halfords to test drive it and so we could also buy a bike for our sons birthday, everything was spot on...

.. UNTILL

Image

yep!
Just when I finish the engine swap, someone in a kia jeep smashes into the civic !!
:(

Trackings out again and needs a new wing but the alloys are fine..
The guy pretty much used the civics wheel as a launch pad, drove over the wing and his car was about 3ft off the ground and flew into the neighbours wall!
So I now need to take the car back the the garage to get trackin done :(

this is the street out the front of our house, and this is where the car was hit !

Image

Image

now this is a thin, one way street, and has a suggested speed limit of 10mph...

donna was parking up the civic, she reverses into the spot as there is a lamp post (not pictured) and a slight kerb.
so when her wheel was on full lock so she can get her back wheel on the kerb first thats when the kia driver hit her at around 40 MPH !!!
donna had to be taken to hospital as she already has ongoing back problems, which are now alot worse!

he said he "misjudged" the gap !!

but here is the absolute beauty... his jeep is a complete write off :D
and the civic is now sorted .. kinda ;)

15 year old civic - 1
1 year old kia jeep - 0

Took the civic back the "the garage" today and got the tracking done again, down side is the strut is slightly bent.. but still safe and drivable ;)
the owner then let us use his garage to sort out some other problems..

Image

the bracket for the headlight was snapped and the wheel was rubbing off it

Image

sawed the end off and then screwed it onto a bracket
Image

so the tracking and headlight are sorted so it can be driven on the road at-least !

going to the scrappy tomorrow to pick up a wing and i can have it painted in no time at all.. still got paint left over ;)

I will update tomorrow ;)

Oh FFS!

Glad you're already stuck in to sorting.

Nice win on the Kia Jeep.

Nice work mate! I still love the colour. These things happen to us all mate just a shame so soon after all your hard work. Well done in the engine just proves it can be done within a matter of hours for people nervous about doing it!

haha doggo you cant beat a honda ;)
it was a saxo or something i think it would be a write off !

thanks sam ;)
you need drive and determination when there's a massive clan japan meet up in scotland on Saturday lol !
donna was worried that i wouldn't have the engine swapped over in time lol !
all in it took just under 10 hours 8-) 8-) .. including plumbing everything in :D
must say though... its definitely the quickest swap ive done so far.

donna is still in quite alot of pain, she had her x-rays done and the impact as aggravated her current condition !
so a claim is in order ;)

lol wiggz how do you think i learned?
by getting stuck in and doing it on a driveway :D

tom, thats what we keep telling ourselfs.. at least its only a wing that needs replaced... but still... i wish i got pictures of the kia LOL

donna was undecided what engine to go for.. options were.. b16a, b18c, h22a or k20
she decided not to go with any.. and to stick with a d series.. she wants to go turbo ;)

d15 with standard internals @6psi with produce 225bhp at max..
d16 with standard internals @6psi with produce 245bhp at max..

so she wants to run the d16 to 220 to keep it safe.. should be interesting !

exactly kris.. i did tell you it can be done in a day or two, just got to get stuck in, its just bolts and plugs ;)

Good efforts all round Lucas, even with the accident. Fairplay to you, you've put in some hours in a short space of time. Do you want to come down to mine for a month and help me finish mine?
