if there is software or OS issue you can hold the power button down for the service menu

hardware like you said try the heat gun on the main board.

if that don't work its a reball of the main board, which needs pro equipment

not built like they used too..

on the subject of dreamcast these are built to last, only playing cdr's can burn out the lasers if the game image is not burned with the dummy file

dreamcast lasers read from outside of the disc not inside, the dummy file pushes data to the outside of the disc.

bit of dreamcast info I learnt recently, I've been working on a little project..

Current setup stable is the PS3, then a very old and cheap, like 30 quid, 360 that finally had RROD about 6 months ago and was fixed for 3 quid. Still going.
Then it's megadrive, PS2 and Dreamcast.
