Yep, legal to drive it to a pre-booked MOT if it's insured and it's the nearest MOT station (you can't go driving an un-MOT'd car from London to Scotland for a pre-booked MOT!!! ;) )

I think once it's MOT'd it's then illegal to drive it on the road again until it's taxed though! :o Can't say that's ever particularly been foremost in my mind though...

As long as the test is pre booked and the test centre is local and you take a direct route I think it's ok.

While it's having it's MOT done I can run to the post office and get my tax so that should be ok.. As long as it passes it's MOT..

Yep, what hardy says, 'cause I'd be amazed if the computer would know quickly enough...

Seriously though, don't worry about it. Incidentally, you're better off waiting 10 days to MOT and tax it, otherwise you're wasting nearly a months worth of road tax?

You know it's the V5 you need to tax your car with now btw? (no form you can fill in at the post office anymore)

It still has to be insured, though.

Can't you tax it on-line as soon as Mr MoT has entered the details on the Vosa website?
