Insuring a Type S?

Post by MazingerZ » Thu Jun 20, 2013 6:06 pm

I'm struggling to find any insurers who recognise the Type S.
Pretty much everyone has Prelude SiR VTEC on their books though - does anyone here insure a Type S as an SiR?

dont go to any of the regular scum (swiftcover/admiral/esure/direct line etc) as theu will not have it on the books. If you do you NEED to make sure you tell them on the call that it is a type S and that they command about double the price of a 'normanl' one. As long as you tell them this, and the jonny on the other end makes a note, they cant then come back later and give you peanuts.

Sky know about the type S as I have insured mine with them, not cheapest. you still need to make sure they know its a type S and to get that cleared.

If you have a write off you will get a stupid offer and then you will have to prove to them the car is worth more.

Basically if they have it recorded they cant U turn on you later on.

Direct line will prob not want to insure it and many mainstream insurers will not cover the ''top of the line special'' cars.

Or you can just insure it as a vtec and not give a drokk. if the car was cheap and you just want it to ramp about them thats your option 2.

Just make sure you state its a Type S in the phone conversation as they are all recorded. They you have something to fall back on. Try Sky.
Although Sky have just given me my Renewal and its more expensive than last year despite having a healthy 7 YNCB.
Might have to try Chris Knott.
Wont even bother ringing Adrian xwankx

Waiting for some call backs from specialists.
In the meantime I spoke to Admiral and got the guy on the phone to check with his manager if the Type S would be covered if the model was listed as SiR and he OK'd it.

and admiral will accept the first offer given them by another insurer and tell you to drokk off with your type S. £800 and feel yourself lucky will be gist of it. they are cheap for a reason. that reason is not giving a flying drokk about what you may or may not think you should get.

They want your money so will happily tell you yes yes yes but beware.

Ratty get a few other quotes then ring sky back, just renewed with them again after knocking £165 off the original quote. i gave up trying places like admiral, direct line etc for a modded import as its either silly money or they wont insure it

Just checked my insurance documents

I thought I had insured my Type-S as what it is but on the documents it only says SiR VTEC import. :?

When I take out the insurance again in a couple of months time, I will have to remind them to put 'Type-S' on the certificate.

Does it actually say 'Type-S' or do they need to make a note in their systems or saying to them is enough???

they will have to send you a letter saying they are aware of the difference. keep that safe.

none of this matters come claim time though. they will offer pennies on the pound and you will have to prove you deserve more.
