Heat wrap and painting bits
Post by Merlin » Wed Jun 05, 2013 1:03 pm
The gearbox is still with the builders, it sitting in their queue of jobs and they haven't got to it yet. Not matter as it gives me time to get some other stuff prepared and get my 5th gen sorted out (which is a priority).
In the mean time I have been wrapping and spraying some engine bay components (exhaust manifold and intake). The small gap in the wrap on the exhaust manifold is just the slack of the wrap where it has been angled down. It is tight and going nowhere, and there is further layers of wrap beneath where it is on each individual primary.

The excess on the metal cable ties still needs to be chopped off.

Spray does make a difference doesn't it - hides the metal ties nicely.

He's pre-preparing it for the pain it's going to endure...

Yeah the paint is very good. It seems to do a good job of holding the fibres together, and makes it look a bit better.

Good news
and bad news
.
Good news - The gearbox is 90% finished and it didnt need a single thing replaced on it. The guys said it was in tip top condition.
Bad news - The final thing left for them to do is fit the MFactory crown wheel to the Kaaz LSD. The OEM diff / crown wheel uses left hand thread bolts. The Kaaz LSD uses right hand thread bolts, and the kit didnt come with any
After speaking with the UK distributor for Kaaz (http://www.coordsport.com) they are seeing about getting me a priority shipment from Japan as there are no sets in the UK/Europe.

Rough with the smooth, hope it arrives quickly.
Really jealous about your gearbox build. I'll do it one day.
