5th Gen steering problem?
Hi guys,
I have had a similar problem to Gup160 in my 5th Gen.
After having new wheels put on the car, it really felt like the tracking was out. The car really pulls to the left most of the time. Then randomly it will be fine and she will drive in a straight line for a few seconds, only to start pulling to the left again shortly afterwards. Very randomly, it will also for a few seconds pull to the right, but this only happens every now and then.
All the tyres are good and I had the tracking done on the 4 wheel steering which is also working fine. This however, has had no effect on the problem.
Feel quite apprehensive about putting my foot down.
What else could it be?

Yeah when the 4WS system is aligned you MUST have a locking pin holding the rear wheels in place.

Otherwise the alignment could be way out. I know mine was when the garage tried without a pin

yeah jayjay is right
needs to be done with the pin by someone who really knows what they are doing with 4ws.

As I have never dealt with the 4ws...if the tracking place ask me what I am going on about, I would not be able to explain how the pin is used.Definitely. If they didn't, I'd get a locking tool and ask them to do it again!
Don't suppose anybody has any pics of the pin in action? I would like to be able to show them exactly where it goes.

apart from! don't know if they are just down here in south but just a mile from me there is a company that make supertrackers (company called supertracker) they make and supply and train all kwikfits. digital gauges are put on and are very small so perfect for all lowered cars cause old ones had to have 2 inches of room under wheelarches. he did mine in his dinner hour for £20 "drink" but these things are wireless to computer screen so it told him to turn steering wheel untill rear was true straight then he locked off steering wheel, set the front tracking to 0% true then because she is lowered he set camber all round and took off my steering wheel and set boss to TDC all without the locking pin but what a damn good machine.
