Fuel pump problem

Post by paul72 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 1:44 pm

Was wondering if any one has any ideas wat is going on with my fuel pump , after our bristol meet on sunday when gayno an honda hardy have pointed out my noise under my bonnet once key is turned only one click i have found it is fuel pump running constant without even turning key twice so i took out main fuel relay under steering wheel and to my amazment it still runs without it . Any ideas please :?

:roll: trust those 2 to find a problem with your car :D

But;
:shock:
Fuel pump runs with main relay disconnected?
:geek: I've just been looking at that circuit (shown in page 11-18 of service manual) and someone must have by-passed the main relay to get the fuel pump to run?
Have a look in the manual to see where the loom for the fuel pump runs back to, then check there to see if you can see it's been tampered with/wired to somewhere else. Also check the relevant section of the manual (ignition/starting circuit sections?) to understand how the pump should work correctly.

nb: I'd guess there's also an underlying fault with your main relay though, for someone to have by-passed it in the first place so if you find a problem with the fuel pump wiring and put that back right, expect to find yourself with a non-running or intermittent running car :cry:

Let me describe the noise. On a normal car click 1 on igniting is acc. No pump prime. Click 2 ignition on pump primes at rear and a noise at the injection rail is heard. On his car ignition click 1 primes the pump and the injection rail continually buzzes almost sounding like a vacuum leak. Now i do not know if the pump runs all the time due to the rail unable to build up pressure to then cut out or the relay has been bypassed not allowing the pump to shut off.

Its definatly running as soon as keys in as you can feel the fuel pipes running to rail but i cant gather where its been rewired to do this if its because of relay being duff

Try another relay perhaps. Yours may be arked in the on position. So when ignition is on first position it operates
