Phew, that would have been my worst nightmare. I hope you get it sorted without too much extra cash being thrown at it.

ah dont feel bad at all mate! its not your fault in the slightest!! :)

ill just add abit of a pm from rich for now, atleast until the full severity of the situation rears its ugly head

Have found some nasties with your engine I'm afraid. May not be anything that will affect the internals but it is a little worrying none he less.
Removed the cam belt covers (which were very poorly fitted) and have discovered half the width of the timing belt has literally shredded itself away. Once I'd cleared away the rubber debris I could see that the water pump gear was heavily worn, not something I had seen before. I soon traced this to te fact that this engine has had a cambelt change previously but done so badly that they have neglected to refit a critical pivot collar to the tensioner roller assembly and then left it all loose so it would move with the auto tensoner!!. This has allowed the tensioner roller assembly to foul against the water pump gear and literally chew away at it.
I then timed the motor up and discovered that it feels down on compression and that the timing is a good 30 degrees off!!!!! The balance shaft timing is nowhere near!!

rich rang me yesterday to explain he'd cleaned it up and compression was OK, not great but ok which is one thing i suppose! lol, im still feeling pretty positive at the moment though, just waiting for the call to tell me that the bottom end is knocking its bollocks off - then ill be annoyed

ill update as and when 8-)

And this is why I'll be taking my car to Rich to fit the timing belts from now on ;-) At least the car's in the right place bud, and the engine's going to be given the best chance of pulling through :)

What needed to be done to get it running?

I feel for you, but keep the faith - if no vtec is the only problem with it now, that should be straightforward to fix from here-on in :D

Hey Ste. Have you spoke to Rich since you got it home today? I recon it must be something simple. No Vtec and you said the rev limit is at 6800rpm right?
