Considering the only thing behind that cover to do with coolant is the pump, so either way ur gna have to strip it down to see
good luck chap

Surely the cooling fans would be on most of the time if the water pump's gone - unless the thermal switch is knackered (and leaking?)bb1boy wrote:It only drips when engine is off, when running its ok if the heating fans are on. I can't get the cooling fans to come on at all though unless I put power directly to them.
The rad's new, you say. So is the drip. Go over the installation again. 9 times out of 10 and all that.

I was going to say the same, it took me a while to notice the cooling fans were not working on mine, changed the fan switch (green one on back of thermostat housing) then the relay in uner bonnet fuse box, it turned out to be the relay! easy fix either way.Sailor wrote:Surely the cooling fans would be on most of the time if the water pump's gone - unless the thermal switch is knackered (and leaking?)bb1boy wrote:It only drips when engine is off, when running its ok if the heating fans are on. Ah; what tends to happen is the fresh coolant in the new rad. makes the water very 'wet' and it finds its way out of the worn pump bearing, which the old gunky coolant couldn't do.bb1boy wrote:Dunno mate, possibly.. it was ok til I hit that badger which split my rad and overheated the engine and now its dripping out of the cam belt cover
It's very common if you change the coolant - it can even start weeping out of knackered old hoses and stuff.

Ooh ok thanks - another thought I just had is theat the water pump must take fluid in from somewhere, is there a chance that the hose to the pump (wherever it is) could be leaking and not the pump itself?? Please tell me a water pump can suck in air as well if its faulty as I don't want the occasionally evident little stream of bubbles to be headgasket failure!!
