I was called into see the head of sixth form at the end of the first year of sixth form (year 12 for the youngsters of today!). He absolutely hated me and I was told that either I left of my own choosing, or they were going to kick me out, because I was going to lower their pass rates :o :?

Pretty much the best move of my life actually, 'cause I went to college to do Engineering and had a bloody whale of a time. 1 whole day every week in the workshops for 2 years... All that time playing lathes seeing who could fling the chuck key the furthest, who could blow up a condom the biggest on the air line, who could burn the spot welder tips out the best, who could get the smallest bit of metal to grip on the magnetic grinder base...
(I suppose I did learn a lot too )

Great stuff :D

You missed out seeing how much metal you could take off in one pass of the shaping machine and if you could make the machine jump...

(Why did I not become an engineer? I liked that stuff and I hate my job!)

Actually yep, forgot about that one :D
Personally I loved the shaping machine, WAY better than using a mill (and FWIW I hated vertical mills and preferred an old horizontal mill they had)

Crap money, that's one good reason! :( And unfortunately manufacturing isn't a good place to be in this country, either
