Do points make prizes?

Usually yes, upon sucessful completion. You don't necessarily get the choice though, it all depends on your local constabulary and what their views on speeding are.

Don't worry, Shiny was joking about. I was caught doing 84 in a 70 and 74 in a 60 and got 3 points and a fine for each. My insurance company even went "meh" when I told them about the points.

Most county's police offer the speed awareness course as long as you haven't done one in the last 3 years. Think the cost of the course is a little more than the £60 fixed penalty fine, but it would mean you don't get the 3 points. I had to pay 10% extra on my insurance for each of my speeding offences, and as they are taken into consideration for 5 years you would be wise to do the course if you get the chance.

I would reccomend the speed awareness course. You will get 3 points and £60 fine (meaning higher insurance) or pay a one off price for the course, will be expensive but your insurance won't need to know as you won't have any points

Lol, I didn't think for a second anyone would have taken me seriously! I was wrong.

On a serious note, acpo guidelines are 10% plus 2 mph is the point that you are speeding. So if your speedo is accurate, in theory you could be ok at 78mph and done at 79, so 82 is only 4 mph over the acpo guideline.

If you have had a noip, then the most likely outcome will be 3ppts and a £60 fine. Doubt you'd go to court for 82 in a 70.
