What's the extra bit on the type-s block for?
Post by Red motegi » Wed May 01, 2013 10:32 am
Well two things actually, firstly, on the back of the block itself (behind the sump) there's like an extra part of the transmission, i,m used to a shaft going from the drivers side to where the drive shaft meets it, on this there's no shaft, is this something to do with a different form of LSD? It has a few sensors etc in it too, and the next thing, maybe related, I'm used to having 4 connectors going between the engine wiring loom and the car itself, (at the back of the engine bay passenger side,,,,, erm this has 5! I'm guessing the two things I've noticed are related? And because the car itself has 4, I'm a bit confused what to do,, both engine,s are totally complete down to starter, dizzy, loom, ecu, I'm just a bit confused what to do,,,,,, ?? Any pointers?

It might be bad, but I suspect it's not as bad as the filters on my petrol CX turbo's. They're on the back of the block ok, but the engine of the block is canted so the back is inside the rear subframe and on a turbo it has an oil cooler that puts the filter even further into the subframe... To access it, you have to be fully underneath the car and reach up between the bulkhead and subframe, then through the subframe towards the back of the engine.

On a proper car ramp, stood up under the car you can just about see what you're reaching for, but lying on your back on the drive it's completely blind and much oil spillage down your arm towards you must ensue as it unscrews!
