Thanks Donald. Doesn't matter if it's not 'scientific'. In fact, a lot of so called science is bs when it comes to this sort of thing. So 'feel' is just as good - if not arguably better.
I wonder though, was the oil the only variable? Did you change any of these at the same time as switching to Helix, that might have contributed to it feeling better?
1. Oil filter type
2. Fuel filter
3. Engine flush
4. Other service parts

Just changed from OEM filter with Castrol Magnatec to Shell Helix with the K&N filter. A lot of people on here don't recommend using engine flush. Just get some cheaper oil of the same grade, go for a spin and drop that before putting the good juice in. (@lewd lude lover

I will be switching to HAMP filter and a different oil next time though going by what others have recommended on here. There are plenty of threads about discussing this, as trammy has said
Perhaps a forum poll is in order?

any good quality 5w-30 or 10w-40 semi synth will do - its more important to do regular oil changes imo
try a hamp shortie oil filter and go for shell helix if you can afford it or something similar - i dont know much about using engine flush stuff - id be tempted to do a few oil changes in quick succesion rather than use a flush.

Argh! Donald, if you were that happy with the Helix & K&N, why are you changing again? What are you changing to? Why HAMP filter? And I know there are other threads about this, but not as detailed as they could be. Based on the info Pushki supplied, the 5w30 sounded appealing..but now you say you are going to change. Please explain.
Pushki, thanks for that post - learnt a couple of things. Told you I was feeling lucky! Will certainly help me make an informed decision.
Thanks Gents. This is just what I'm after.

I tend to use Fuchs stuff these days, Opie sell a change kit with the oil and filter required.

Click 'Oil and Filter Service Packs' then 'Upgrade Service Pack' - the top Fuchs one is what I've been using for the last few changes.

Thanks Vanzep, great post. Looks like we're getting somewhere!
Donald, looks like It might be worth sticking with your Helix & simply changing your filter to HAMP?
And 2 people saying change oil in quick succession, rather than engine flush? I thought flush was supposed to strip any jobby lining the various components. Will the prior really achieve similar results?

Thanks Indigolemon. The Fuchs is the cheapest of the bunch there. In fact, very reasonably priced. I assume it works well for you, but have you tried any of the more expensive ones or an alternative viscosity? If so, findings?
