It depends on
- How good a sprayer you are to use the paint you have efficiently
- How many coats you will need/want
Im respraying my whole car not including the bumpers and i have
- 6 litres of Base coat for 3 coats (All thinned out waterbase)
- 4/5 litres of pearl coat for 3 coats(All thinned out waterbase)
- Around 4litres of clearcoat for 1 semi wet drop coat and 2 wet coats
Its always better to have too much paint.
Some say 3-4 litres is enough paint.
We will see next week how much i use.

Thanks.
Intermediate spray skills (maybe), but not the most efficient gun.
So your base coat quantity is 6 litres thinned? I'll probably need 3 litres mixed 50/50 with thinners?
Luckily there's none of that pearl coat nonsense here.
I'm going for one mist coat and 2 full coats with each layer.

Remember i use waterbased paint. After the tinters are added, we add 25% Stabalizer 1% crosslinker and 25% Multiplyer (waterbased thinner). So yes 6 litres all thinned out and ready to put into the guns. But i may only need 4 litres if that.
Most HVLP gun will have 65% transfer efficiency.
On your wet coats make sure they arnt too wet. Semi wet coats are all thats needed on colour or else you will get tiger strips and cause mottling when you come to apply the clearcoat.
But im sure you have your own technique.
What colour? Low hide colours may required a base colour 1st like a white base for milano red or a dark grey/black for a light blue.

Awesome phantom gray pearl. Most of it is going over the existing paint, and for the repair sections I have a charcoal 2k primer to go on first.RattyMcClelland wrote:What colour?
Thanks for the colour and paint tips.
I'm looking at 2.5l of base coat, 7.5l of lacquer, 5l of thinner and 5l of panel wipe. Totalling roughly £150, seems pretty good.
Oh, have some rep too.

Im going over old paint to. As long as its keyed up propperly like p600 or p800 you will be fine. If the old paint is solid it will be a good surface to stick too.
Also dont leave primer exposed for too long. Maybe a day at max in wet weather. Primer just absorbes water and crap unless is an epoxy based primer.
