problem you have is the batteries installed are rechargable, but if your pins are missing then supose it wont matter

They are supposed to recharge while key is in ignition, yes.

Then what's with the charging pins? Mine worked until I lost a pin and then it gradually stopped working. Now it doesn't work at all :(

If for any reason they are not recharging, i guess you could just fit ordinary battries?
