Not really had a productive weekend, but managed to get the following done:

Engine/box out.
Gbox removed for clutch attachment and clean up.
Rear lower sub frame removed for welding and powdercoating.
Clean up of random wires and cable tidy's.
Modified and fitted the standard auto tensioner instead of the manual one.

Also ordered up all the battery wire, terminals etc for fitting the battery in the boot, and also ordered one of those MNR? 5.5kg batteries, i'll report back when thats fitted. The price and weight saving is excellent so really hope it works out.

The latest round of weight saving is 2.25kg for air con core (see below), 10kg for battery, deduct 2-3kg for battery wire, spare tyre 13kg? So that totals around 22kg.

I like how you don't consider that to be a productive weekend! If I managed to do that much on my project lude I'd consider it a productive year compared to my usual rate!

Hah, I think I am so used to working on this thing now that it feels like a part time job!

The air con removal is pretty easy and you don't have to remove the dashboard, roughly speaking this is what you need to do:

1. Remove glove box.
2. Cut & remove small plastic cross member directly behind glove box.
3. Remove screws and wiring plugs holding the air con box in place - 10mm socket and about a foot long extension is needed for a couple bolts.
4. Remove clips and 2 screws holding the two halves of the box together.
5. Use a sharp blade to cut the foam sealing material at the joins for the two halves of the box.
6. Pull apart and remove the core.
7. Block off original air con pipe holes - I haven't done this yet..

Anybody got any recommendations on what I can use to block tha obround shaped hole for the air con pipes on the bulkhead?

the thing that worried me is cutting the plastic behind the glove box

can I still use the glove box after?

find rubber bung with right diameter is what I was thinking of doing for the holes

Its fine, it even says to cut it in the prelude service manual. A pair of side cutters went through it no problem. The glove box is still useable after as the bolts go through the plastic into metal which is still there.

I am not sure about the rubber bung as the hole is not round, its two different sizes holes with metal missing between them, so basically an obround with different diameters, I am thinking this bung would be available if the lude was ever available without air con? If not perhaps a laser cut piece with some thin rubber double side edging would work.

Yeah I very much doubt you'll be able to buy anything to suit that hole. Maybe modify the existing bung if you still have it ???
