Lambda/De-cat/warning light queries
Post by CrunchyAdams82 » Sun Apr 14, 2013 10:48 pm
Hi Guys,
I replaced my exhaust recently with a manifold, downpipe, & straight through (non-cat) system.
Slight problem. The garage couldn't get the lambda sensor out of the old downpipe (said it was too coked up), so they just plugged the hole in my new downpipe, and there is currently no lambda sensor fitted at all.
Obviously the cat sensor isn't connected either.
So, the car runs a bit rough right now, and I have 2 warning lights on the dash; engine management, and a red one that I assume is for the cat.
Obviously I need a replacement lambda sensor to put in. Hopefully that will make it run & smell a bit better.
Will fitting this get rid of the engine management light? Or both?
Is there any way of getting rid of the red warning light without a cat fitted?
Is there anything I should know about not having the cat sensor plug in? Any further problems?
Thanks.

That's great, cheers guys.
I assume with no lambda sensor fitted I should not be surprised that my car is running a bit rough, right?

yes - no lambda sensor will mean the car wont run right - fit a new lambda sensor and earth the cat sensor wire to the chassis and then reset the ecu and that will sort it. There is an alternative - you could look at fitting a vafc as that doesnt require an lamba sensor as you set the fuel & air ratios via the vafc - should seem some gains with a tune.

Ok Pushki, so found the page you were talking about.

Why the #24169 btw? There are some cheaper, some more expensive. Any reason why this one?
And if coming from America, how long will it take to get here? And do they charge much for delivery?
And vanzep, what kind of tune do you have in mind?

I just quoted the one I bought. Denso and NGK/NTK are OEM for the Prelude.CrunchyAdams82 wrote:Why the #24169 btw? There are some cheaper, some more expensive. Any reason why this one?
I can't comment on the other brands.

I received mine within a week. There were no hidden charges.

Ok, what made you spend the extra £7 over the Denso?
