Yeah, that's the sort of thing I'd like to build up to ultimately. Need to read up on the fundamentals of these engines first though. See what makes them tick, then see what I can do to make it special. H22 is the way to go!

eg: that wally that came on here with the gen5 he shipped to Ireland ;) the one with the obd1 coversition that revved to 11,000rpm :nono:
i find mine at 7500 not to bad but push her a little more and the valves would start to bounce and you will lose power :P
The H22 has a longish stroke, fek revving it to 11,000rpm

As I understand it, the longer stroke on the H22 was a trade off against the high revs of the smaller engines in order to develop more torque?

What have they done to that engine to get so much out it?

Can the same principles be applied to my engine?
Don't think any of the 'standard' B18's are over the B18C's 197bhp book figure....

I think the late 2000 model JDM type r was known as an 'rx'- it had some extra features over the stock 98spec type r ;

- Retractable door mirrors
- Remote keyless entry
- aluminum pedals
- Rear and sides tinted glass
- upgraded sound system

No difference with the motor though!!

Lots of myths around concerning 'special editions' ;)

So is it possible to reverse that slightly; shorten the throw & up the revs a little? Or is that what cams are all about?

all these have ££££ and blood, sweat and love in them. they are all teg and civic eaters without having to claim massive bhp numbers ;)
you wait till rob rolls out his jrsc 300bhp+ (you would need to take a spare pair of pants for a ride in that one  )
have driven and had rides in some mega power cars and none compare to the smile factor of H22 Vtec

RX - that's what it is! Defo uprated air box & larger wheels. Not sure bout other bits but I'll find out.

I was just interested in what simple add-ons may have been applied for subtle gains.

Well no!!! U would essentially be upping the dissplacement and lowering the compression!! Cams just alter the valve timing ;)

newkid wrote::facepalm: both the 96 spec and the 98 spec ITR from japland produced 197bhp, the engines are the exact same! So if your going to start spouting off facts at least have them correct! The only differences in them engine wise are the manifold and the final drive in the gearboxes, due to the manifold and f/d differences it changed where the power was delivered, both where as quick as the other, 98 would have it off the line, 96 would pull it in with its longer ratios.
Indeed- somebody has been watching their Best Motoring DVD :D

The UKDM motor is mechanically identical too- but made less power due to cast manifold & different (skinnier) cat ( for countries with tighter emissions regs). My uk had mugen airbox/system & a 98 spec header. Made 196bhp/135lbs/ft with a remap :)

As said the Rx had no more power than the regular 98spec

Yeah, just did some digging & that's right. The only differences are the luxury & cosmetic ones. Think he's got the mugen air box in there though.
