So it's quite varied then really - not quite the outcome I had in mind! Some of you run super/premium, some of you don't think it's at all important... I thought everyone, especially the JDM guys, would say "super all the way!" ...but apparently not! Perhaps it's not quite as important as I first thought.
Anyone had any thoughts on top-fuel (nitromethane) conversions/additives?

No pinking at all. Assumed that's why the JDM has a knock sensor fitted?Dbo wrote:your JDM must "pink" like a bitchwurlycorner wrote:I just run ordinary unleaded (mainly BP) in both my UKDM and JDM 4ths...do it a favour and feed it some good stuff

V-Power only (Well, occasionally the good BP stuff if I am stuck) on Prelude and Bike - it's not just the 99 Ron, it's that I've fallen for the line that better petrol has better additives for keeping stuff clean/longevity and that Supermarket petrol in particular is bad in this respect. I'll freely admit I have no technical knowledge and have never compared feel.

I interviewed a technician for a job who worked for Gilbarco at the time (major fuel pump manufacturer - have a look next time you're filling up and it'll probably be one of theirs).Doggo wrote:V-Power only (Well, occasionally the good BP stuff if I am stuck) on Prelude and Bike - it's not just the 99 Ron, it's that I've fallen for the line that better petrol has better additives for keeping stuff clean/longevity and that Supermarket petrol in particular is bad in this respect. He said the Supermarket petrol didn't have the same additives as the major brands (different, not necessarily worse but likely to be), but the main problem was the crap that he fished out of the filters on the pumps and petrol forecourt tanks!

That and the fact that standard factory maps always leave a safety margin to cater for lesser grade fuels/hot ambient conditions etc etc....wurlycorner wrote:No pinking at all. vpower is the only quality fuel in this crappy nation.
Anything else is a mildly sporty car is robbing you of possible GO.
Vpower consistantly gives better MPG than ANY OTHER FUEL even when you take into account its higher price. this is from my own experience and measurement against the leading brands.
Octaine is a pointless figure sold to an ignorant public by unscrupulous salesmen (who would have thought?). If you want the true value of your fuel you need the calorific value per ml. This is what your car will turn into GO. Super market fuels have this number watered down with ethanol to raise the octaine number so ignorant public will happily eat jobby and smile because its cheap jobby. If you like the taste of secondhand jobby then good luck to you. Momentum99 being the best polished yet worst jobby out there.
Using supermarket fuel is for Mums with shitty clio shopping trollies. NOT FOR MEN. Anything else is basically just showing the world you are cheap
I suppose it comes down to this.....If you automatically reach for the value vodka or gin rather than the Smirnoff or Gordons then you are best off buying cheap shitty fuel for your car as you will never understand the difference between a quality product and a cheap shitty one made to cater to the lowest common denominator.
Just my 2p
