I've always used Mobil 10w40 previously too. I've still got 4 litres worth that I plan on putting in the 3rd gen once i've got her back.

This is what I was using when my pump went, switched to Fuchs later on. I wouldnt think the two are linked, oil pumps are known to go on preludes, I was luck the car was on the drive when my pump went.

Really?! Yours was the first I'd heard of in my 8 years of Preluding, mine the second, Ste's (if it is that) the 3rd.

No, Alex just said his went using Mobil 10w40 which is what I've always used previously with no issues. Just Me and possibly Ste (once it is confirmed oil pump failure) that have had it fail using Fuchs Titan Race Pro 5w40

Ask the oracle; @performanceautoworks. From memory of a conversation I had with him last year when mine went, it wasn't a recall item but it was known to go and he'd replaced a few.

Just checked my invoice from PAW from when I had the build done; not linked to the oil pump failure. I had Castrol GTX 5W-40 in originally when the pump went, then switched to Mobil 1 0W-40 and then changed that Fuchs 10W-50 as my motor was getting too hot an was cooking the 40 oils.

If Rich had literally replaced a "few", then I wouldn't class that as common ;-) but if that's what Rich says, then it's just news to me.

So we were all running 5w40 when our oil pumps went then? :?

I didn't say common, I said 'known to happen' ;)

Anyway, there are probably more common factors than the oil, I'm sure most people run 5W-40. What about mileage? The fact their all H22's?
