*don's anorak* The 1988 turbo cars (including mp4/4) were limited to (IIRC) 2.5bar boost and a tighter fuel limit (was 4 bar in 1986/87)- thus the engines were 'only' making ~650bhp. The 1986 special qualifying engines were those making ~1300-1500bhp. Exotic fuels, waste gates closed for 2 Lap qualifying runs etc etc....
I went to my first British GP in 1986 at the tender age of 9!
