the disk it comes with has one for a "Prelude" but doesn't really specify what gen, litre, etc.

Even if the map you are supplied or supplying is calibrated for essentially the same spec of engine -eg JDM with intake and exhaust - the two can and most often are very different.
Even if the calibrations are similar for two different engines/setups the "new map" should only ever be treated as a BASE MAP to tune from.
Also don't forget that even if you do get a good map supplied you will still need to set up your base timing, throttle etc. Failing to do so can lead to a good base map being a mile out and damaging your motor.
TUNING is the ONLY way to ensure that the calibration is right for you and to get the best out of your motor, after all that's why you bought a mappable ecu in the first place right!!!
