I think this is caused by a snapped toothed cable.......

Mines been like that for over 2 years. I saw a YouTube video showing some body change theirs. Think it was a Honda but not a prelude. Low priority for me but keep us posted.

It will be stripped teeth in the telescopic scroll drive, or the teeth on the motor.
You can replace the whole aerial unit, or just the telescopic insert.

i had some free time today so set about sorting my aerial and fitting my replacement mast upon comparing the new part with my original seems i was a section missing on the original turns out my two lower sections where jammed together with nothing to lose i just gave the sections a good yank and hey presto they came apart , so i cleaned the sections with some brake cleaner applied a coat of thin oil and switched the radio on and off lubricating inbetween and would you believe it cured my problem no more machine gun aerial

very pleased with that free fix

it kinda makes sense why it makes that noise as it cant push the aerial all the way out , the aerial should be 5 sections when fully extended , good luck i just thought it will go one of 2 ways and i have a spare mast so nothing to lose
