I had a new alarm fitted last year, but recently if the car has been standing for a day or two, I can unlock the car and deactivate the alarm, but when I try to relocate it the alarm sets itself but the central locking doesn't lock.

Could it be the battery, as when I run the engine or drive it the central locking works OK?

After market alarms normally operate the central locking by having an extra solenoid fitted to the locking control rods on the drivers door. The alarm directly operates the solenoid, which pushes the lock rod on the drivers door (as if you were locking it by hand) which then causes the cars original central locking to lock the other door.
You'll need to take the door card off to check.
If so and it's stopped working, could be that the clamp between the solenoid and the lock rod has come loose, or broken, solenoid faulty, loose/broken wire etc.
When you try to activate the alarm, if you watch the drivers door lock knob, can you see it love at all?
