Foam Squares - Rear Winscreen Strip

Post by Gayno » Mon Feb 18, 2013 2:06 pm

Hi all,

The little foam squares under the 7 clips that hold the strip for the rear windscreen have dried and perished on my car so they need replacing.

What is best to do/where to get them?

Adam

You could get some new foam or replace with something like neoprene. Or you can get the whole clip new from Honda, they are expensive. (I think its number 7 - http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_ca ... k_03=23166).

Are you replacing the rear window trim or do you have a water leak?

i used tiger seal to replace the foam - im hoping i never have to take them out again- banking on the fact that the original lasted 18 years :)

Yeah it's number 7 in the diagram. It doesn't say if they come with the foam or not though! All the clips themselves are fine.

It's a water leak I've had for over a year, and this has to be the source, so need to replace the foams. Or could I use something like silicone sealant or other gooey substance (DON'T.....I know what you lot are like!)?

New ones do come with the foam.

It's not sticky on either side though. Probably just sticks to the bodywork through age, I guess?

Provided you can get the old clips out ok, if I were you, I'd just buy a sheet of closed cell foam off ebay and cut new ones out myself. Bloody expensive way of just replacing the foam otherwise!

This is what I meant! Just wondering if anyone had recommendations for what to use.

how thick is it? surly draft excluder foam would be good to use and its self adhesive.

3-4mm I'd say

I've ordered some neoprene from the 'bay for £3. Worth a shot!

So I spent an hour earlier replacing the foam squares with neoprene.

I got 4mm neoprene from ebay, a whole A4 sheet but still have most of it left as you don't need much!

All fitted back on fine, but now the strip is sitting with a 2mm gap from the rear windscreen so I think 4mm is too thick.

It will do for now, and we'll see if it stops the leaking. If it does, I'll find something thinner to replace them again.
