1GZ-FE, so much potential, "Smokey" of Top Secret in Japan has stuffed one of these in a Supra with twin turbo's to push it over 400km/h and this is for sale, I'm getting me a euro millions ticket tomorrow and if I win teh monies I shall have this monster. Lust is not the word when it's a 5.0 JDM V12 quad cam

280bhp = Japanese manufacturers "gentlemens agreement" that was.
Rather than having a legal remit passed to restrict power of cars produced the manufacturers got together and agreed an upper limit thus the law never came into being.
This is why you find all the Evos, NSX, supra etc were rated at 270-280 bhp. In reality many produced over this figure but were artificially kept close to the figure. This is one of the reasons why the big jap tuning industry grew so fast as it was easy to get good gains from these cars.
This agreement has been dropped in recent years

It doesn't produce too much over the 280 tbh, the engine is N/A and designed to go in a high end limo, namely the Toyota Century which apparently had electric curtains in later models

it was more about being smooth and torque to shift such a large heavy barge of a car while keeping the diplomats inside happy, there are some quirky things about this too. For example there is a hydraulic pump run off the serpentine belt that powers cooling fans for the engine, yes hydraulic fans, nifty and it also uses a timing chain which is kept in tension by both spring and oil pressure tensioners.
Still with 5l of displacement and a near as makes no difference box stroke (bore is 81.0mm and stroke is 80.8mm) with all the torque there is a lot to be had out of the engine, all alloy block with thin wall iron bore liners pressed in, it's a well designed and made engine, stock ecu uses a wasted spark system to pair up the spark plugs. Would love to have the £3.5k to buy it and however much it costs to ship, an epic starting point to say the least, think it's also got some major stuff in the bottom end like a hefty crank girdle to stop crank walk, the sump does require 8-9l of oil though and the filter is HUGE!
I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!

Google "Nardo Supra" and you'll see the monster that one Mr "Smokey" Nagata of Top Secret made, he made it blown and very fast. Namely the Supra is named for the Nardo Ring proving ground in Italy, the target was 400km/h and it's rumored the engine pushes out well over 1000bhp and some insane torque figure like 800ft/lb which is kinda 'nuff said lol. In all fairness if the same development was done as the 2JZ-GTE engine which as an 3.0 inline 6 can produce over 1000bhp with the right tuning I'm sure the 2000bhp mark would be more than achievable, would drink like an alcoholic on a hot day and need all the performance bits you can buy thrown into it and all tuned and balanced to within an inch of it's life but there is room to up the displacement and the crank is billet as stock so more than tough enough, forged rods and pistons with race bearings, full top end build (48 valves though

) port and polish, decat, free flowing exhaust and manifolds etc etc. Pretty sure a lot of off the shelf 1JZ and 2JZ parts would fit with regards to internals, maybe find someone to make some custom cams for a more race oriented engine.
As always the one big question, how deep are your pockets?
The Top Secret Supra runs twin ECU's each controlling one half of the engine, not sure if they ditched the MAF's for MAP's but there are 4 knock sensors to hook in too and the plugs are twinned up physically too on the stock system, each plug has a coilpack the a little fly lead to it's paired plug/coilpack. The options for replacing the CAS with aftermarket ones like the AEM ones could also open up a lot of possibilities. Completely stock an in a Century the engine is designed so it can run off of just one bank on cylinders if needs must which adds a lot of complication, starting with a bare engine and wiring loom would be a better option but again it's drive by wire so throttle control ECU or mods to hook up twin butterflys to a cable accelerator.
