Lude Generation

Alright fellas.

I have a set of 4 17" Prelude Motegi wheels.
They are very bad condition(paint peeling badly, rims curbed a small amount, but not much at all really).
They have 4 new tyres on, about 1000 miles of wear. Fronts are yokohoma rears are some crap brand.
I am sure they have "Enkei" cast into the back, so a very decent wheel manufacture.

What I'd like your help on is if I should referb them to sell them or not.
Obviously they would make more money referbed, but if someone good give me an idea of before and after referb prices that would be great.

If you want originality then refurb them and keep them. If you want to add something extra then go for some new aftermarket wheels. If you are not sure then refurb them in Anthracite and keep that in your car. That's what I would do.

i have just bought 3 of these wheels for £100 through ebay.
i also found a set of 4 going for £200.
None were refurbed, but at least they were all straight (pretty much!)
can't help you on a price for a refurbed set...

Here are my wheels finished in medium metallic silver.

The photos were taken at JapFest 2010 and don't really do them justice. When the sun shines on them, the metallic flake really does sparkle in the light like glitter!

It'd cost yer about £200 for a refurb in No.4 PC, with the caps wet-painted to match. It's very metalflakey like Carrisma's are.

They are original and the correct offset for the 'Lude (many aftermarket ones are wrong and reduce its incredible stability) and I cannot see a reason not to do so.

If you get them refurbed to sell on you won't make the refurb money back.

I've picked up sets of these wheels for £26 without tyres and £80 with tyres before now and the condition has been pretty good on both sets.

Get them refurbed if you plan on keeping them tho they do look pretty good on the car

There isnt a huge demand for Prelude OEM wheels so they dont go for a lot. £200 for a set is optimistic IMO. If you want to keep them do the refurb yourself. I did my wheels for about £20 a wheel. You need a load of sandpaper, primper, paint, and clearcoat.

Like everyone said, there is no demand for OEM wheels.

My lude came with pretty battered 17" OZ Geminis. Would love a set of Motegi wheels to replace them , but refurbing them is so expensive compared to the cost of the wheels (or even car!), that I just can't justify it really. Keeping half an eye out for a set in good enough condition to be worth buying without refurbing, but going to take a while to find I think.

^^ DIY. True the finish wont be as good as powder coating by a professional, but how often are your wheels so clean that you would be able to tell the difference?
