Winter Tyres

Post by Greg » Tue Oct 30, 2012 7:52 am

Who here keeps a set of winter tyres on some old scruffy wheels for this time of year? Its pretty much a no brainer when you look at some of the comparison videos...

I've got a pair for my little civic in storage. Bought them a couple of years ago when it was really bad. Never actually used them yet!

I've got a front pair of dunlop winter sports - I think they are useless unless there's
actually snow on the ground.

Summer = Goodyear Eagle F1s on 17" wheels.
Winter = UniRoyal RainExperts on 15" OEM sawblades.

How do you find these in the wet Pushki? Just wondering how they compare to the RainSports before I buy a set...

Fantastic!! :P

No aquaplaning through puddles. Total confidence when cornering.
I can't fault them at all.

I actually kept them on during the Summer because it was so wet. ;)

Great :)

I think I'm sold. They're highly rated on http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ for wet performance, even up against the most expensive brands. And they only cost about £35 each in my size!

My snow/winter tyres are Cooper. IIRC you shouldn't use winter tyres above about 7 degrees C or the just wear out/shred.

We got a pair because the mrs used to work a fair few miles away and had to be there very early, before the snow had been turned to slush. Not getting to work because of snow wasn't an option. I'm looking forward to using them. I remember when a mate had some on his car. We were just driving all around massive queues of other cars who were completely stuck on the slightest of hills (especially big exec cars).

Plus it makes getting to fresh snow on a nice big empty open car park for some 'practice sessions' all that much easier :)
