i want my steering wheel closer.

I have a '94 4g 2.3 4ws auto with cruise control. I commute 80 miles a day and when I get the seat adjusted properly for my legs the steering wheel is too far away and as you all know it only adjusts up and down. It's beginning to cause me problems with shoulder pain. I think I have three options but there may be others:

1) move the stock wheel outwards with a custom made spacer
2) replace the stock wheel with a deep dish wheel and (like Nardi or Momo) lose the airbag and maybe the cruise control switches
3) replace the stock wheel with another Honda wheel with an airbag and maybe transfer the cruise control switches.

in an ideal world I'd like to keep the airbag and cruise control. Has anyone got any advice which might help me?

sounds like a custom spacer might be your best option but ive not heard of this being done before
I dont think any oem wheel is going to move it much further out
ive seen dc2 and civic wheels fitted and they both look great - i will try and find a link to some pics

civic wheel courtesy of vtecmec ;) looks like quite a bit of work went into this so you could have a look at his build thread for more info :)

I'm not sure how you would space a standard wheel out, tbf - you will run out of shaft?

It would be possible to get a steel spacer made up with a male spline on one side and a female spline on the other. My neighbour has all the necessary engineering equipment. It could need to be quite thick though and I have no idea what if anything the steering wheel may need to engage with underneath.

it doesn't look like the civic wheel is any further out than the stock but hats off to vtecmec for the conversion :D

I'm leaning towards the nardi/momo option at the moment, maybe using a twin sparco steering wheel button thingy for the cruise control buttons http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performan ... el-buttons

Yep, that would be possible. Not a piece of body lemonade to manufacture at home (splined shaft).
The interface is air bag (ribbon cable) horn (spring finger onto a slip ring) and the cruise control buttons (traditional plug in wire iirc ).
The 4ws sensor is entirely separate, behind the steering wheel driven directly off the column, so you don't need to worry about that.

Many thanks for all your help. :D

I've decided to go with a momo wheel with the sparco buttons for the cruise control. I'll use the standard boss and see how it goes.

Ive checked with my insurance company and they're ok with it as longs as it's fitted professionally.
