4ws - steering box issues

Post by Danielr637 » Tue Jun 07, 2016 6:41 pm

Hi,

I've got a 5th gen 2.2 with 4ws. I need a new rear steering box. Does anyone have one for sale or know where I could find one?

I've been on eBay and all I could see was a 4th gen rear steering box for sale. Can anyone tell me if this would fit on a 5th gen car?
This is my first prelude so bare with me on my lack of knowledge.

Thanks

Daniel

I have the full 4ws system if that's what you mean by "box".

Hi, it will be easier changing the whole rack complete with track rod ends, than changing just the central rack part, so go for that I suggest.

If Damon can't help, have a look in the breaking section, there are a few members breaking 5g's ATM so I'm sure you will find on, no problem :D

Thanks for your help everyone.
This is a bit of background on it, I bought the car with issues, the previous owner had an mot refusal note with the car saying that it needed the offside rear track rods ends replaced so I bought some (took 5 weeks to come from Honda, couldn't find anywhere else) then after all that and after further inspection the previous owner had already replaced the track rod ends with a new ones (he did not tell me this, liar)

Looks like he's replaced it and then realised its needs the full system replacing and has chickened out and sold the car. There is noticeable noise coming from the rear when you go over speed bumps.

Also the 4ws light on the dash is on permanently and the system is disabled. I have tried re setting this with the pin and steering method but with no success. As soon as you turn the dash on the light appears.

I have ordered a second hand ECU for the 4ws as a back up in case after we replace the 4ws it still doesn't work.

So from everyone's superior knowledge, do you think the best option is to replace the whole system and

how much would you like drop the one you have Damon? Also where are you located?

I can't wait to Get it sorted, the 4ws has been disabled on it since I've got I'm yet to experience 4ws.

Thanks

Daniel

The first thing to do would be to pull the fault codes from the 4ws and see what it tells you is faulty.

Noise over bumps could be totally unrelated to 4ws. What noise is it/where does it seem to be coming from?
'shock knock' from the shock absorber top mounts is a favourite and easily fixed.
