HEEEEELP PLEEASE! suspension advice !

Post by tom023 » Mon May 09, 2016 3:15 pm

The stock suspension on the Prelude is completely shot and makes all sorts of clattering going over bumps. From the start I was going to replace it with Koni sports and a lowered spring but I now find myself in a predicament:

The site I was going to get Konis from has upped their price, meaning that now, konis (482gbp for the set) and h&r lowered springs (167gbp for the set) are going to cost me 649 british pounds without including shipping. This is only a fraction cheaper than BC or MeisterR coilover suspension!

I drive the car daily and don't track the car on a regular basis. I don't mind going over speed humps at 10mph and a stiff ride but I can't have it jarringly hard.

For the sort of money I will be paying I can see it's worth going straight to a coilover setup, but what do you guys reccommend? At the moment BC and MeisterR's cost exactly the same although MeisterR's do not come the top mount camber adjustment.

I need to make a decision quickly! I can't stand the broken oem suspension!

(I have the ESpoly bush kit coming that I bought soon aswell!)

Have you had your ball joints looked at? When I first got my 4th gen all the balljoints were shot and it made one hell of a noise as well as handling being crap.

Any use? - http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/prelude ... 18627.html

Top mount camber adjustment is not needed as moveable top mounts on a double wishbone suspension setup does nothing. MeisterR's are the flavour of the month at the moment, I can't fault my MeisterR GT1's although I have never been in a car with a set of MeisterR Zeta-S.

none of the coilovers for the lude come with top mount camber adjustment afaik because of the chassis mounts there is a set of konis with springs for sale on here i think.

My tein flex kit is great as an all round package not to hard over the speed humps but great for the twisties

I haven't looked at ball joints...etc yet Merlin as I still haven't had the car on the ramp (Something I'll be doing tomorrow). I've seen vanzeps konis for sale but the apex springs have too much of a drop for my circumstances... Here in spain any modifications need to be officially put on the logbook and this costs money and is hassle unless they can pass undetected  . Also I like opening fresh packaging haha.

Good to know that top mount adjustment is not needed in the 5th gens case.

I'll check the flex kit out now cheers.

McPherson strut and multilink suspension use coilover topmount camber adjustment.
You can't have it on double wishbone suspension as it's the wishbone that dictate the camber curve.

okaaay... so dcperformance sell bc coilovers for the 5th gen for 618gbp while the MeisterR's are 700gbp. Are the meisterRs worth the extra dosh?

I'm happy with the BCs on the Teg. They're easy to set.
I don't see why they wouldn't be just as effective on a Prelude.
