Using New Brake Discs with Used DS2500 Pads

Hi All,

Just wanted to ask a quick question regarding Discs & Pads.
I have just purchased a full set of Stop-tech slotted discs during the black Friday sales and at a very good deal so I couldn’t resist. Many thanks to Htune for honouring the deal way after the event and even beating tegiwa’s sale price too.

Can I use new discs with my used existing DS2500 pads?
I would ideally get new pads but the DS2500 aren’t exactly cheap to replace, plus my existing DS2500 pads still has loads of life left in them.

Also, If the disc retaining screws are damaged are these replacement from ebay any good?
They are stainless steel.

Or would you recommend the mild steel genuine Honda ones? Genuine Honda ones are pricey but if they are best ones to go for then I don’t mind as its best to do the job properly rather than re-visit it in a couple months when it all goes wrong – lol.

Thanks Guys

Retaining screws doesn't matter - they're for convenience during wheel removal/pad change etc. They don't take the braking forces, that's all on the wheel studs (and the clamp force/friction between the hub/disc/wheel faces). Use stainless ones if you can, cause you can be sure the heads won't be corroded to drokk next time you try to undo them

You can re-use your existing pads (i have done on ocassion in the past, when student pauper finances dictated  ) but be aware they will almost certainly take a lot longer to bed in and until that's happened, your braking force might be absolutely terrible.

Thanks wurlycorner, i didn't know that about the retaining screws. I thought they were used to keep the disc straight and true to the hub but thinking about it the wheel will be doing that anyway.

Cheers, will get some stainless ones. I added the link to the ones i found on ebay and look decent enough.

Duly noted with regards to using used pads

When bedding in the used pads do i have to several hard stops type bedding in or just general driving around type bedding in?
