Lude Generation

I am in two minds as to what to do with my wheels, either refurbish the original Honda ones or buy new after market alloys?

I've not had any dealings with alloy refurbishment companies in the past but after reading some bad reviews on various websites I not sure if refurbishment is the way to go.

Does anyone have any suggestions on who to use (Herts, Beds or Essex area), the pit falls of refurbishment etc.

Also, I want to replace all 4 tyres, so what's the tyre of choice with you guys

TBH by time you pay for a proper refurb and 4 new tyres you'd be just as well getting a new swt of wheels with tyres.

Wheels refurbishment = ~£150
New Tyres all around (some decent ones) = ~£300

So for around £450 you can pick up some nice wheels with tyres on them from eBay/Gumtree etc etc.

Also depends if you like the OEM styling or the aftermarket as well.

I charge Minimum £240 inc Vat and i hate doing them and profit margin is small compared to time taken.

I did give the guy who was refurbing my wheels a refurbing somewhere else.

I would like to keep the car as original as possible so refurb is my preferred option, what make of tyre do you guys recommend?

I have Toyo T1R on my OEM Motegi wheels.. They are good for the value..

Also a lot of people on here use Uniroyal Rainsport/

I don't like the way the sidewall looks (obviously that is the most important thing with tyres )
I have a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's on my stock 4g and they are absolutely fabulous. However, they are mega expensive new - I picked them up nearly new from a known source/history so that made them affordable. I'm not sure I would have bought them new... Before that I had Michelin Pilot's on there (what the car came with) also very good, but even more expensive
Probably none of those are reasonable price-wise for a standard spec 20+ y/o car tbh...

@indigolemon had some other recommendations that he ran on his ( neuton were they? )

Toyo's have also been a common recommendation before, but they're not so great in the wet, IIRC? (doubtless someone will be along to point out that I'm talking crap there! )


I have been considering Dunlop BlueResponse SP Sport somethingorothers* for my 3g (which needs new tyres when I get the wheels refurbed). On balance of ratings and price wise, they seem hard to beat* though I don't know anyone that is actually running any...
*there are several different products from them under very similar names, one in particular seems much better than the others.



nb: I'm also looking round for a wheel refurb place in essex, for some of my wheels...

A few recommendations for the Goodyear something assymetric (can't remember what they're called).

As for refurbishing wheels, the oem set on my ek9 I ended up using for winter wheels so refurbished them myself (rather gashly looking back) using 2 pack filler and then painted them in Y-56 (Phoenix Yellow) using rattle cans. Actually didn't turn out too bad. Finish was good for rattle cans and wheels looked in alright shape. Not sure how long they would've lasted looking semi decent with everyday usage...nor the safety implications. Didn't throw the balance out much (if at all).

I've seen those Goodyear F1's on internet for around £65 each and for refurb wheels £55 each local to me in WGC but I have not seen any reviews on the company so not sure whether to take the plunge with them

The car is used everyday for commute (only 5 miles round trip) so any refurbishment to the wheels needs to be good!!
