Why cutting springs is not a good idea...

From the 3g breaker.

Bottom of the springs don't seat correctly on the strut, with the risk of them 'popping off' the seat;

Top coil on the spring has twisted out of shape;

The only thing holding the spring in place is because it's rubbing on the shock body (not good)

Don't do it kids!

That was the only issue with jims gold one. The rear springs were chopped and it hovered over bumps... Sometimes they woulds twang as he drove up the drive :lol:

Yep much better to spend the cash on proper lowering springs rather the repairing damage caused by chopped originals... hindsight is a wonderful thing ;)

When I arrived at the barn on Sunday, matey in the other unit was in there changing out the cut springs on his mates W123 (for some 'pukka' lowering springs) because the MOT man had failed them ;)
