Has anyone used Brembo front brake pads before, I've just ordered a set (and discs) and am wondering if I will need the OEM style shims or not?
The blurb goes thus:
Around 100 different mixtures of materials are used to create the OE quality of Brembo brake pads, the pads are thermal scorched in order to prevent fading and minimize the running in time of the pad. An underlayer, backing plate and metal shim are all used in order reduce nosie, vibrations and prevent the pads from over heating.
It does say shim in the description but I'm not so sure looking at pics on the net.
Also, err, are they any good?
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

Performance Autoworks fitted Brembo blank discs with Brembo pads all round on my 4th gen a couple of months back. Rich didn't say anything about shims. I supplied the parts, he just fitted them.
As for them being any good, well I don't get any brake judder anymore and the car stops really well, however, they have just started to squeak a bit and this is after less than 2,000 miles. It only does it when braking very lightly, if you put your foot right down on the pedal they make no noise. I have not found the cause of this yet.

Im sure i looked into this myself a while back - i was trying to find pads that were supplied with the anti squeal shims.
I bought Brembo blanks front and back - i ended up going for OEM pads as they are supplied with shims and grease. My local main honda dealer sold me rear pads (43022-SV4-A03) for £27.50 plus vat and told me he would do the front pads(with 6 shims in total) for about £37 plus vat. When its that cheap why look at anything else
- so no i havent used brembo pads but i can see from your other topic about shims what your asking and the answer is i couldnt find any aftermarket pad that came with the shims

Just to throw a spanner in the works - I'm sure my Brembo rears came with shims... I know the EBC Redstuff ones I have on the fronts definitely did.vanzep wrote:so no i havent used brembo pads but i can see from your other topic about shims what your asking and the answer is i couldnt find any aftermarket pad that came with the shims

If I do need shims, I may just get these for the shims themselves.
