Lude Generation

Getting brake judder on my new lude, I am guessing this is discs and pads? Wouldn't be caused by anything else?

If I change the discs and pads all round what would people recommend? I am not going racing in it, so I don't really want expensive after market brakes, but I also don't want cheopo discs and pads that will judder anyway or just be naff.

Any ideas?

Ive tried brembo discs and pads and ive got a set of pagid front and rear discs to go with oem pads. Brembos were good and pagid ones look good but as yet are untried. You can get both these makes off ebay and if your in no rush you can grab a bargain - i got the pagids for £9 each for the rear disc and £16 for each of the front discs. They do seem to go up and down in price... I like oem pad kits as they come with the pad backing shims that aftermarket ones dont supply.
Blueprint, Mintex and Delphi are other know budget brands.

Mtec discs are pretty good and a decent price

I had pagid discs an pads fitted all round an problems to report they do a sound job

I was very disappointed by the EBC blanks with Redstuff pads I put on the Prelude. I've used EBC before, but thought I'd try the redstuff pads on this car, only to find they juddered after 6k ish miles. Perhaps they would've performed better with the EBC grooved discs, or maybe even Brembo blanks?

I wasn't a fan of Mintex pads on my old JDM Prelude, I allowed them to bed in for 500 miles before giving them some harder braking effort, only to find they were squeeling. Upon removing the pads to check them, I noticed the pad material was coming away from the metal frame of the pad. They were promptly returned to the motor factors and replaced with some EBC standard pads which performed flawlessly. Could've been a bad batch of the Mintex pads, but I've not used them since on any of my cars.

If the discs and pads are good then see if a local garage offers disc skimming. Will eliminate brake judder.

Juddering is normally worn discs or pads, or sticking caliper sliders or piston. Prelude brakes generally need serviced twice a year (on my Ludes anyway) or they willl start to stick. Sticking brakes will destroy both pads and disc eventually.

As the others have said any OEM, EBC, Brembo, Delhpi etc.. blank discs are the ones to go for. Dimpled / grooved are a waste of cash. I run Mintex OEM grade pads front and rear on my road car and use Mintex on the rear of my track/race car with no issue.

Thanks all. Been trying to find a set of front and rear discs and pads all in one set but struggling, they either seem to be front or rear, some with pads and some without

Yes this - honestly, check these are all good before going and blowing money on new pads and discs...

I wouldn't know how. I have no mechanical knowledge plus I dont have the time at the moment. I will buy the discs and pads and if they are not needed I will have some for when I do. Got the car booked in at performance autoworks in a couple of weeks.
