Pro's & Con's of PAS removal

Post by prahunt » Sat Nov 15, 2014 6:32 pm

I've seen a few arguments for and against this, and it is something I will look to be doing when I start the engine bay tuck on my Lude.
I will be using her as a weekend/show car. So I'm not concerned for the heavy steering, hell I learned to drive in a non PAS ford..... So I think I could manage.

Just wondering what everyone's opinion is. Who's done it and lived to regret it, or does the extra feel from the road make up for the heavier turn in th slow corners?

Did this in my ek9. Really transformed the handling. Just the increase in feel gave me the confidence to push an extra 10-15 mph through most corners. Couple that with the reduction in engine drag (which made the motor so much more responsive) I felt it was well worth it.

But after moving my 5 gen around at work with no pas, as stated before...its incredibly heavy. I've not tried running it at full chat round corners yet though...that and mine is 4ws so don't know how that changes things.

I had to drive my Type-S to PAW without PAS.. :? On the motorway you couldn't tell the difference but around town my biceps grew a bit.. :?

i've got electro-hydraulic power steering on my EK Civic which is fantastic but i've had it trip out on me before (loose connection) and losing the PAS made it a bloody dog to drive!

If it is removed and hated, is it easy enough to put back on?

If you just take the belt off the PAS pump, yes it would be easy to revert :D
(Seriously though, you could try it like that to see what it feels like first?)

That seems like a good solution! :)
I will try that when I have my Lude back. Need to know for when I do my engine tuck.

As above...that's the best/easiest way to find out whe there you can cope with it
