I've just picked up one of our spare sets of wheels from South Coast Plasti Dip in Southampton. They've done a good job of the refurb: shot-blasted, painted and lacquered. (Thank you @Dbo)

I'm now considering fitting aftermarket rim protectors when putting the new tyres on. There seem to be quite a few sorts available.

Time to pick the forum's collective brains. What are your experiences with these things, please?

I can't help with this as I have no experience of rim protectors, but will watch this thread with interest. I plan to get my 17" alloys refurbished over winter and had considered fitting protectors afterwards.

Would the contact from the rim protector with the rim not damage the plasti dip??

My neighbour had them fitted on his merc. I saw him changing them two times per year. They were doing good job as paint on his wheels was still perfect. I don't know anything about make of them and hes moved long time ago.

Personaly I don't have anything to protect my rims. The only thing is Toyo T1R and my rims are still the same as first day I get them. I'm avoiding kerbs - that's the secret

There are a couple of types with metal clips and I think I'd probably want to avoid them, but the plastic ones might be OK on the paint.
The ones I had in mind have to be fitted with the tyres, so they can't move around.

I was, too, until a recent incident made me realise that it didn't have to be my fault ... stuff does happen.
