4th Gen 4WS Fault

Since getting the car back on the road, my 4WS throws the error light after every 3 or 4 journeys.

It has done this (although not as frequently) for the past couple years.

I've had the ECU numerous times and resoldered any dry joints that I could find, the last time I had it out I couldn't see any at all.

The only way to clear it is to remove the negative from the battery for 15 seconds, then all is good again.

As for pulling the fault code, it just flashes extremely quickly for about 20 flashes IIRC, pauses, then another 20, and so on.

Any ideas, other than trying a different ECU?

check the code, find out which flash is for which fault,

replace that sensor?

The short quick flashes are it swapping between main and sub-ECU IIRC, so it's just telling you it hasn't got any stored codes.

Sounds like you need to try another ECU.

Yeah, I'm thinking possibly it being a sticky relay, as once the error come on, no matter how many times you turn ign off and restart the car, you get no further clicks from the ECU, so it doesn't even try.

OK, just been out and it is now giving me a code. I get the series of quick flashes, then a long pause, then 2 flashes, then series of quick flashes again. Took a video which I'll post soon.

From the list of codes, there isn't a Code 2 so assume it must be Code 20??

Yea will be 20. Think it's front main steering angle sensor iirc

Yeah that's what 20 relates to, which is going to be a bitch!!

Reading up though, I didn't realise there was a reset procedure for first time you start the car after resetting the ECU. Will try this first.
