Locating tangs on new pads are always jobby and need filing these days I find... Poor quality manufacturing, paint drips/runs on them.

Right. Brake saga part 94...
After all the stress of yesterday's disastrous attempts to fix the exhaust light I went to a local guy who I've used for the Del Sol to get an opinion on my brakes.
Here's the driver's side disc with the wonky wear pattern.
Image

As you can see, the pad mustn't be 'flat' because of the oxidisation on the inner part.

Here's another closer shot of the disc showing not just the uneven wear but also some nasty looking scratches.

Image

Jason took off the caliper, and checked this two pin things you guys mentioned. Both are moving freely.

Image

he checked the piston with a kind of 'spreading tool'. The piston moved fine so he said that was ok. However, when we looked at the pads this is what we saw.

The outer pad.

Here's the outer and inner side by side.

When he felt the disc (and asked me to feel it as well), he pointed out that one side seemed 'higher' with a deeper edge to it where it had been skimmed. These are new discs gentlemen, fitted by someone else who was originally going to get Bosch discs but because his supplier didn't have them I ended up with these. It did say TRW on the box but once again,I'm worried in case they're Chinese knock-offs.
After deliberating, Jason's recommended me to buy new discs from a reputable place ( ha bloody ha) as he thinks this one I have has been machine incorrectly and may be warped.
Once again, more info that differs so I'm throwing myself in your hands gentlemen as to what to do. I've had new brake pipes, new pads (3 sets), new discs, new master cylinder and new brake booster. They should bite like a great white shouldn't they? Well let me tell you, they don't and as you can see, there's something not right with the driver's side disc and pads but I'm frankly stuck as to what to do.
Appreciate any help as ever. Thanks, Simon.

Well if you're worried about knockoffs I'm always willing to buy parts here and have them sent out, only thing is I imagine that might be pricey... but perhaps cheaper than buying set after set after set.

Hi Donald, you may be right dear boy and given the nightmare of counterfeit parts here, it may be the only option left to me. Ta for the thought and I'll keep you posted (pardon the pun) on my situation. Much appreciated.

To me, it just looks like the outer pad is not sliding in its spot properly, and catching on one side causing it to rotate slightly.

You might get away with taking a file to the sliding tabs and giving them a greasing.

Hi Gents - I've cut and pasted this from my profile page.

1: The brakes. Am I right in thinking that the right way forward is to get new discs and pads from a genuine source? if that is the agreement then may I ask that you advise me on what exactly I need and if possible, a source in the UK from where I could buy them. (Iain, you asked on the brake forum about the miles with my current new discs. I estimate no more than 1000 miles.)
Actually, rather than trouble you guys with messing about with sourcing, buying, transfer of funds and then faffing about with postage etc, I'll enlist the help of my brother to do the donkey work. I'm really grateful to all of you for the offer but you've already done enough and I think using my brother is the right move. Also, I'm probably heading home for Christmas so I will be able to do my own running around to parts places while I'm back.
If you could give me a brand name of disc and pads you think are what I should buy then that would be a massive step forward. Thanks in advance to all of you.
