4ws fault

Post by tom023 » Sun Mar 06, 2016 7:11 pm

Hey LG.
As I stated in the Newbie section, hopefully I'll be looking at a 2.2vti h22a8 lude next weekend. I spoke to some helpful people on PreludePower and they pointed me here seeing as the Prelude is european (EDM) and said that you guys would probably know more. Here is the original message I wrote that explains the fault.

---"Guys, I'm looking at buying a 1999 h22a8 prelude (europe) and the seller had told me that after not having a battery on the car for 2 weeks, he put a new battery on and when starting the 4ws light came on. On top of that when the A/C is turned on the 'ludes idle drops, sometimes enough to make the car cut out.

Apparently this has all come about after replacing the battery... Could the issues be related? I hoping it is a dodgy earth. "---

I've put this in the steering section due to the 4WS fault that worries me the most. Has anybody got an idea on what could have caused this?

P.S When I go to look at the car I'll be taking diagnostic equipment with me just in case.

Any advice is appreciated. Hasta luego!

Already on the list  Could a faulty alternator throw the 4WS light?

As a quick test, with the battery connected, remove the fuse for the stereo. Replace fuse and turn on ignition and see if 4WS light is still on (this is how I was told to reset 4WS light on my 4G - not sure if this is same for your model)

I bet the 4ws code will be for "low voltage" or "voltage below threshold" ;)

Have a look in the wiki on how to pull fault codes. Probably best to print out the procedure and what all the codes are, then when you go and see the car you can do the test in front of the guy and use the result to beat down the price :D

Great plan. Can I use workshop diagnostic equipment on the Lude? They use OBD2 sockets right? I've never had a lude in the workshop here in spain...haha. It will look better to the seller if I use diagnostic equiment and pulling the codes instead of using the trusty paperclip although I'll take it with me in case.
