Prelude 5th Gen Newbie - Suspension Advice Plz

Hi all im new here and loving the forum and everyones motors. Been spending hours at work just tralling through peoples builds and threads.

I recently purchased a 5th gen lude my first one too and love the car however the car sits very low. The exhaust has been upgraded to I believe possibly a 2.5 if not 3 inch bore b pipe. The car scraps badly over dam speed bumps it so painful!! I been told the car is on cut springs and standard shocks.

Im thinking of upgrading the suspension setup to eibach springs or a good set of coilovers. With a budget of around 500 give or take what would be a suitable set of coilovers? Also what is everyone elses setup? Do your cars also scrap? I have a lot of speedbumps here and would be a pain in the ass to go over lol.

Please help fellow ludes

£500 should be fine for a set of coilovers, eibach springs will set you back about £100 or so and the ride is pretty good.

Welcome. Glad you're enjoying the forum.

If you have cut springs, definitely get rid of them asap!

However, check over the rest of the suspension first before you take it apart to swap the springs, to make sure nothing else has been damaged due to the idiot lowering method, otherwise you might find yourself with a car you can't put back together until you get hold of some more parts...

thanks guys,

once i recieve the paper work for the car i can get the insurance sorted out. im then planning on taking it to my friends garage to put it on the ramp to inspect the underneath and the car in general.

i most likely be going down the coilover route, can someone shed some light on good adjustable coilovers and the ones stay away from and possibly a good retailer to purchase them from unless someone is selling a set on here??

How low are people driving their cars?

How low depends on where you live i suppose there are loads of speedbumps and all kinds of traffic calming measures around manchester so not too low for me on my Tein Flex kit

hey fellow ludes

sorry to be a pain in the ass however im very new to the 'lowering' scene, however latest update is im still waiting to get the car on the road and up on a ramp to check the underneath.

However im not looking to track the car, this will be my daily runner. So would it be best to just upgrade the shocks and purchase a set of Eibach springs? Also what does the compression weight all mean? Also seen a lot of people using koni and GC kits, how do i know which one is correct for me. I take it GC are springs?? Sorry again if this is a silly question im just trying to get my head around it all and the last thing i want to do it purchase shocks and springs or even coilovers and then find out iv made a mistake.

Gc kits aren't progressive which isn't ideal for daily use. Also they are generally fairly high spring rates which again sucks for daily usage.

I would go lowering springs on konis is I were you, I did amd the were sublime.

Decent coilovers are fine for a daily drive. 10kg front and 7kg rear and propper comfortable on my bc coilovers.
