Rubbing noise when steering

Post by lucylou » Fri Jun 26, 2015 10:11 pm

Hey guys and gals hope you're all well! Got new problems with the lude. I've noticed quite a loud rubbing noise coming from the steering column area when I turn the steering wheel either stationery or very slow speed. Any pointers anyone? Cheers

It could just be the steering wheel rubbing on the plastic cowling. :geek:

Could be the steering column bearings? I have this too, especially in hot weather. I just live with it.

i had this recently when i put the oem steering wheel back on - was loud at full lock when parking :?
i tried putting some silicone spray in there and a little bit of grease - was still there - so i took the cowling off and put it back on after adjusting it - still there....
then i forgot about it for a bit as there were some rattling noises elsewhere that had my attention
and now its disappeared.
I think in some cases with these sort of noises you just need ignore them and they will go away
either that or turn the music up a enough to drown it out ;)

Yep, all sensible suggestions above (including merc getting his coat!)

IIRC, there is a also a plastic cowel at the bottom of the steering column, where it goes through the bulkhead. Worth checking if that's been knocked by feet or something and pushed it out of alignment or shape???

Does it sound like the noise is coming from high up and low down?
Can you feel anything 'nasty' through the wheel (stiff/grinding/graunching) when you hear the noise?
