I have lowering my 5g as one of the main items on my wish list.
As much for the way it looks as the way it handles. The suspension on this lude is a bit softer than my previous two, but as it is only for road use I'm still fairly happy with the handling.
That said, The ride certainly doesn't feel quite as 'sure-footed' with being softer - and when parked next to everyone else at Japfest last year it looked like it was on stilts!
My overriding concern, and the reason for this post, is that still I suffer from neck pain following a whip lash injury several years ago so cant go with suspension that is too firm as it can cause problems if on a particularly bad road or driving hard.
I know most aftermarket coilovers have damping adjustment. What sort of range do these give in comparison to oem? Does lowering alone cause the suspension to be firmer due to reducing the amount of movement in the shocks?
How do the aftermarket shocks compare to fitting lowering springs on stock suspension?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

several of the sets of coilovers have springs that are mainly for the track this is where the problem is no amount of damping will turn a track spring into a good road spring
Unfortunatly this is an area where you really do only get what you pay for.
My tein flex kit is pretty good you should try a few different ludes out see which is best for you

I've just put lowering springs on my and I looks the part, it feels a lot firmer for me compared to the oem ones but I've also put bigger wheels with low profile wider tyres so that will have affected it aswell

Re: Odp: Suspension advice wanted
Can comfirm that, I aldo run on BC and they have 32 stiffnes setting and the softer one is like OEM struts.andypont wrote:Oh, that's good to know. If they offer that sort of range I would be fine. Thanks.RattyMcClelland wrote:If I put my BC coils on the softest setting it's probably a tad softer than oem. Hardest setting is absolutely unbareable on normal roads.
ludes are ment to be driven, not wanking around on a stand like a Civic.
